Battle Rock Wayfinding Point and Battle Rock Park:
located at the south end of Port Orford on the ocean side of Highway 101. The park has an ice cream shoppe, a restaurant, a gift shop, and visitors’ information center with handicapped accessible restrooms next door. There are benches and a stone wall to sit on that provide views of the beach and coastline with Humbug Mountain to the south.

Buffington Park:
Turn west on 14th Street – the park begins on the corner of Arizona and 14th Street and has many picnic spots. It also has a playground with swings and slides with adjacent handicapped accessible restrooms. It’s the perfect place for a family to spend some time.

Garrison Lake:
This coastal dune lake covers 130 acres (more or less depending on rainfall) with an average depth of eleven feet. The maximum depth is twenty-eight feet. Sand dunes run along 4.4 miles of Garrison Lake. Lots of birds, so be sure to check out the “BIRDS” page of this website. There are aquatic animals too: beaver, mink, muskrat and otter. On shore opossum, raccoon, weasel, deer, and squirrel might be drinking from the lake. Fishing is good because the lake is stocked with cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and yellow perch. Easy access to the lake from 18th Street to Pinehurst Drive that goes right to a public fishing dock, where canoes can be launched. Boats can be launched from 12th Street. At the public boat launching facility there are handicapped accessible picnic tables, rest rooms, water, and a barbecue pit.

Langlois Public Library

A brand new library, dedicated in 2002, that has three Internet accessible computers for public use. Word processors, fax and copy machine available. A unique feature is the young adult room. Rotating art displays and a summer reading program. Videos and audio books on tape can be check out. Handicapped accessible. Open Monday through Saturday…phone 348-2066 for exact hours.

The Port Orford Dock:
Has locations where crab nets can be tossed out into the ocean. Crab nets can be rented and bait purchased at the Dock Tackle Shop and crab nets can be purchased at McNair’s True Value Hardware Store. Check the Oregon Sport fishing Regulations for size and season or visit the Oregon Fish and Wildlife (OFW) website at www.dfw.state.or.us

_Office is open weekdays from 9:30 to 3:30 Monday through Thursday. Friday from 9:30 to 12:30. The Center is closed on Saturday and Sunday unless a breakfast or luncheon is scheduled.
_Membership is $5 a year for folks at least 55 years old.
_Meetings for individuals and groups can be scheduled through the office. Rent is $15 per event.
_No alcohol or smoking is allowed in the building or on the grounds.
_The current schedule of events for the month of July is as follows:
Blood pressure and hearing tests – Tuesday 9:30a.m. to noon.
Quilting group meets – Wednesday 9:30a.m. to 3:p.m.
Breakfast second Sunday - once a month
Lunch twice a month on Saturdays
Rotary luncheon every Thursday at noon
Tops meets on Monday 9:30a.m. to 6:p.m.
Pinochle Monday at 7:p.m.
_When the Senior Center is open, there is cable television in the lounge next to the office. There are puzzles, playing cards, a pool table, books to read and borrow, a copy machine (10ca copy), greeting cards and hand-crafted items for sale. Coffee, tea, and cookies are always offered.

Local bus (Dial-a-ride) runs Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9:30 til 1:30 - handicapped ADA equipped. No holiday service.
Cost - $1.50 (runs approx. 10 miles north and south of Port Orford)

Curry County Public Transit
Coastal Express runs 5 days a week – between Brookings and North Bend. Bus stop at Ray’s Market or catch the bus anywhere along Highway 101 by waving. Cost is $2 per segment/city, students – half fare. Handicapped ADA equipped. Bikes and pets allowed. No holiday service.

Port Orford Wetland Interpretive Walkway
L ocated between Ray’s Place Market and Kar Kare Auto Parts just off Highway 101. Turn west on 18th Street and then turn south on Idaho. Follow the sign on Idaho east into a road that leads to the entrance to the wetland boardwalk.
The wetland walkway trail is a 160-foot long wooden structure that allows the visitor to get within the boundaries of one of Port Orford’s significant “scrub-shrub wetlands. There are three interpretive signs along the walkway that explain some of the life in this fresh water wetland.

West Coast Game Park Safari: Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my! Oh yes! And snow leopards, elk, deer, chimps, llamas, bison, camels, goats, cougars, peacocks (even white ones!), lynx, black panthers, miniature horses, zebras, and lots and lots of folks petting, gawking, filming, feeding, and enjoying each other’s company. Only 20-miles north of Port Orford on Highway 101, the game park is fun for all ages. Visit their excellent website for more information: www.gameparksafari.com

There a number of campgrounds that are handicapped accessible:
Boice-Cope County Park: To get there, travel 17-miles north of Port Orford and turn west on county road 130. In less than a mile, take another left turn on to county road 136. From there follow the signs to “Curry County Parks.” The suddenness and surprising beauty of the remote Floras Lake will delight you. Boice-Cope County Campground is on the edge of the lake and has showers and restrooms (handicapped accessible). Each campsite has an elevated fire pit, picnic table, and a drinking water faucet. Firewood is available for sale. RVs are $16 and tents are $12 a night. Extra vehicles are $5. There is no host currently at the camp so the honor system is in place at the self-service pay station

Cape Blanco State Park Campground:
Four miles north of Port Orford, turn west on Cape Blanco Road and drive five miles to reach the campground. Facilities include a horse camp with eight campsites and six double horse corrals ($14 for campsite up to eight people and two horses in a double corral). There is 150 acres of open riding range, seven miles of horse trails, eight miles of hiking trails. There is also a group campsite (with water) offering space for fifty people ($60 a night for the first twenty-five people and $2.40 for each person #26 through #50).
In the main part of the campground there are fifty-four campsites ($16 a night/winter rate $12) and four log cabins ($35 a night) with a double bed, a bunk bed, a table with four chairs, and an electric heater in each. One cabin is handicapped accessible. Next to the porch overlooking the ocean is a fire ring and a picnic table. Hot showers, clean, handicapped accessible restrooms, and RV dumpsites are available. Firewood for sale. There is a secluded area for hikers and bikers ($4 a night per person) with bike lock stations, water, fire rings, and picnic tables. Shower for non-campers is $2. Humbug Mountain State Park:
Six miles south of Port Orford on Highway 101. 100 campsites (thirty-five with electricity), five pull-through sites - ($16 a night/winter rate $12) – eight people maximum at a site. Extra vehicle $7. Most campsites are handicapped accessible. Campsites have picnic tables and fire rings. The campground has handicapped-accessible hot showers ($2 charge if not camping) and flush toilets, RV dumpsite, firewood for sale, amphitheater that seats fifty for summer programs and slide programs, hiker/biker campsites, and a Junior Ranger program. Day-use area available for group tenting and picnics, with a gazebo that has tables, water and electricity. Small creek and ocean access nearby, in addition to a lovely climb to the top of Humbug Mountain. ELK RIVER CAMPGROUNDS:
There are free and isolated campsites, maintained by the Powers’ Ranger Station, along the Elk River that flows through the Siskiyou National Forest. There are narrow sideroads that dip down to the river. Some have picnic tables and fire rings in clearings either near the river or with a fine view of it.
The following are designated campsites:

Sunshine Bar Campground

Eighteen miles from Highway 101, look for a road to the left. In the past there has been a sign, but recent vandalism has taken a toll and the sign might not be visible. Recently upgraded, seven free campsites have been added along with two handicapped accessible restrooms. Self-contained campers and tents can be located right on the edge of the river. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There is no running water or showers. Fourteen overnights limit.

Butler Bar Campground

Further up Elk River Road…19.6 miles from Highway 101 on Forest Service Road #5325, are seven campsites with picnic tables and fire rings located in campsites along the Elk River. There are handicapped accessible toilets near the dirt road that runs from one end of the campground to the other. No showers or running water. Lots of trails leading to the river’s edge. Fourteen overnights limit.

SIXES RIVER CAMPGROUNDS
Edson Creek Park(and campground): Drive six miles north of Port Orford and turn east on Sixes River Road and drive 4.4 miles. Turn left just before the bridge that crosses over Edson Creek. With twenty-seven sites available for $5 overnight, $1 day use, (Golden Age Passport members pay half price), Edson Campground, without electric hookups or a dump station, offers limited amenities for tents and self-contained units. There are handicapped accessible restrooms, garbage cans, picnic tables, fire pits, and water at a central faucet. Firewood is available for sale. Edson Creek is a shallow creek, safe for supervised children. A boat ramp and swimming hole in the Sixes River are just across the main road. There are also four group campsites with plenty of tables and space. Phone camp hosts Linda and Ray Panter for group site reservations and more information about Edson Creek Park at 332-8027.

Sixes River Recreation Site (and campground):
Drive miles north of Port Orford, turn east on Sixes River Road and drive 11.4 miles to find nineteen campsites along the Sixes River. Cement tables, fire pits, fresh water from an Artesian well, garbage cans, and a number of centrally located handicapped accessible restrooms are available. Rates are the same as Edson Creek Park (both are managed by Bureau of Land Management - BLM). The camp hosts, Chuck and Maria Yates, will explain the sixteen solar panels and the three information panels that will acquaint you with river otter, bald eagles, Marbled Murrelets (a seabird), and the Silver Coho (a Pacific Ocean salmon) that spawn in the Sixes River. The Sixes River history of gold mining can be experienced by panning for gold and platinum (bring your own pan) year long, but from July 15th to October 15th, recreational dredging is allowed on the river.
